Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Liya"
Description
“St. Liya” — a waist-length image of the righteous foremother with her hands crossed on her breast.
What the picture shows
The saint stands facing forward, her gaze calm and direct. A white-and-blue veil with fine patterning and a beaded edge covers her head and shoulders. Her outer robe is a deep green falling in broad vertical folds; the sleeves and the lower part of the dress are pink-crimson with yellow and white insets. Her hands are crossed on her breast, palms open. The halo is wide, worked in rings of gold, orange and amber. The background is cream with printed leaf scrollwork; two fan-shaped corner motifs sit above, narrow brown-and-gold bands run down the sides, and a cartouche in a gold surround closes the panel below. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, the robe, the veil, the halo and the whole frame, while the face, hands and background stay as printed on the canvas.
