Description

“St. Irene” — a young saint in a rose-crimson robe, with loose hair and a slender gold diadem.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown half-length. A thin gold diadem set with pink stones rests on her head, and long chestnut hair falls freely over her shoulders. Her robe is raspberry-pink with a wide gold band at the neckline and down the front. Her right hand is held to her breast, while at her left rises a large gilded cross-shaped structure with carved columns and green gems. The halo is assembled from even rings of warm gold and ochre. The border is brown-and-gold foliate ornament with rosettes in the upper corners and a cartouche below. The beading is partial: the figure, diadem, halo, gilt details and frame are beaded, while the cream printed background stays on the canvas.
