“St. Gregory” — a waist-length image of the hierarch with a book, in a pale pink vestment and a blue omophorion.

What the picture shows

The saint faces forward: a high forehead, white hair, a long forked beard. Over the pale pink, almost sandy vestment with its broad folds lies a blue omophorion trimmed with gold crosses and a thin ochre edging. He holds a book in a gold-and-green binding with a diamond pattern; a green band shows beneath his sleeve. The halo is golden, laid in several concentric rows. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, halo, corner rosettes, side border and the name cartouche, while the pale background with its printed leaf pattern stays exactly as printed on the canvas. The framing is strict — golden-brown corner rosettes, a narrow side band and a rectangular cartouche under the figure.
