“St. Galina” shows the martyr in a light veil, a small cross in her hand. The mood is quiet and focused.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, almost frontally. A blue-and-white veil with soft folds covers her head and shoulders; beneath it is a green garment, and over it lies a terracotta-raspberry wrap. Her right hand holds a slender dark cross, the left is pressed to her chest. The halo is built from yellow and gold rings outlined with a narrow red band. The fill is partial: beads cover the figure, the veil, the clothing, the halo, the border and the fan medallions in the upper corners, while the cream ground with its printed scrollwork stays on the canvas. A narrow border of brown and amber squares runs along the edge, with a red name plate and a band of ornament below.
