“St. Eudocia” — a monastic saint in a green monastic veil and a blue mantle, holding a staff. A restrained and very quiet icon.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, frontally. A green monastic veil with a small cross above the forehead closely covers her head. Over it falls a deep blue mantle laid in long folds. Her right hand holds a dark wooden staff, the left a prayer rope; at the lower centre a golden tassel with a fine ornament is visible. The halo is warm, of yellow-gold rings. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, the veil, the mantle, the staff, the halo, the corner rosettes and the border, while the cream background with its printed foliate scroll stays painted on the canvas.
