Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Cyril"

“St. Cyril” — a half-length image of the saint holding an open book. The palette is warm: brown, ochre and pearl white.

What the picture shows

The saint stands frontally: a man with a long dark beard and a calm, severe face. His head is covered by a pale pearl-white hood embroidered with small crosses, falling onto his shoulders. Over his robe he wears a brown-ochre mantle in large soft folds, with a lighter garment beneath. In both hands he holds an open book: the left page carries a miniature of a seated figure at his writing, the right shows lines of text with a large ornamented initial. The halo is golden-yellow, pale at the centre. The ground is cream with fine painted scrollwork, edged by a dark brown border of diamonds, corner fans and an inscribed cartouche below. The fill is partial: beads cover the clothing, hood, halo and border ornament, while the ground, face, hands and the open book stay printed on the canvas.
