“St. Catherine” — the saint in a jewelled crown, holding a cross set with coloured stones.

What the picture shows

She is shown half-length. A gold crown set with pink and blue stones rests on her head, and a white-and-blue veil falls from beneath it. The upper part of her dress is golden ochre, worked with rows of small stones; below it lies rose-coral cloth in soft folds. In her hands she holds a tall cross set with blue, pink and green gems. The halo is broad, running from pale gold into ochre. A brown-and-gold foliate border runs around the edge, with rosettes above and a cartouche below. The beading is partial: figure, crown, veil, dress, cross, halo and frame are beaded, while the cream printed background stays on the canvas.
