Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Boris"
Description
“St. Boris” shows the prince in a crown and richly ornamented dress. The highest bead count in this series.
What the picture shows
The saint is shown to the waist, frontally, in a gold crown set with coloured stones. His caftan is ochre-brown with a wide decorated band of beading running down the front from the neckline. A cloak in a warm red-and-orange pattern lies over his shoulder. His beard is short and fair, his gaze calm. He holds a cross and a sheathed sword. The halo is a gold circle with a rim. The fill is partial: beads cover the figure, the crown, the caftan, the cloak, the halo, the border and the fan medallions above, while the cream ground with its printed scrollwork stays on the canvas. A border of brown squares frames the field on all sides, with a red cartouche and a band of ornament below.
