Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "St. Basil"

“St. Basil” — a half-length image of the hierarch with a long grey beard, in richly ornamented bishop's vestments. The mood is solemn and restrained.

What the picture shows

The saint stands frontally, bare-headed; his grey hair is combed back and a long dark grey beard falls to his chest. His right hand is raised in blessing, his left holds the edge of his garment. The vestment is the brightest element: densely covered with crosses and diamonds in blue, pale blue, orange and gold, with broad ornamented bands at the hems and across the chest. The halo is golden-yellow, paling towards the centre. The ground is cream with a faint foliate pattern, framed by a dark brown border of diamonds and corner fans, with an inscribed cartouche below. The fill is partial: beads cover the vestments, halo and border ornament, while the patterned ground, face and hands stay printed on the canvas.
