“St. Artemy” — a waist-length image of the warrior saint with a spear, in a lilac cloak over golden garments.

What the picture shows

The saint is turned slightly aside, his head raised and his gaze direct. His hair and short beard are chestnut. The cloak is lilac-violet with soft folds; beneath it is a golden-olive garment densely covered with fine ornament, and pink cloth shows at the shoulder. His right hand holds a long spear on the diagonal, its shaft slim and gold. The halo is golden, laid in rows of warm tones. The beading is partial: beads cover the figure, halo, corner rosettes, side border and lower cartouche, while the cream background with its printed scroll stays in print on the canvas. The frame keeps to brown and gold: two fan-shaped corner motifs above, narrow bands of a repeating motif at the sides, and a dark cartouche in a gold surround below.
