What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, facing forwards. The saint is grey-haired with a long white beard, and a wide halo of golden and ochre bead rows with a dark rim surrounds his head. His right hand is raised palm outwards in blessing. A green himation is draped over his shoulder in large folds with darker and lighter passages, over a red-terracotta tunic. His left hand holds an unrolled pale blue scroll with an inscription. The ground is pale cream with a fine foliate pattern; ornamental arches fill the upper corners and a band of diamonds runs along the bottom. The fill is partial: beads cover the figure, the vestments, the halo, the scroll and the corner ornament, while the face, the hands and the cream ground stay printed on the canvas.
