What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, facing forwards. The saint is young, with dark blond hair to the shoulders and a short beard; a wide halo worked in concentric rows of golden and ochre beads with a dark rim surrounds his head. His arms are folded across his chest. The robe is light blue, its soft folds carried by transitions from pale to deeper blue, with lighter patterned insets at the chest and along the lower edge and a narrow golden belt at the waist. The ground is cream with a faint foliate pattern. Ornamental arches in brown-gold beads fill the upper corners, and a band of diamonds runs along the bottom. The fill is partial: beads cover the figure, the robe, the halo and the ornament at the edges, while the face, the hands and the cream ground stay printed on the canvas.
