“St. Alexander” — the holy warrior prince with a sword, in red and pale blue.

What the picture shows

The prince is shown half-length, with fair hair and a short beard. A crimson cloak falls from his shoulders, and beneath it is armour of blue-and-white scales with a gold breastplate set with floral inlays. In his right hand he holds a sword laid diagonally across his chest; his left hand is lowered. The halo is gold, moving from ochre to pale gold in even rings. A brown-and-gold foliate border runs along the edge, with rosettes above and a cartouche below. The beading is partial: figure, cloak, armour, sword, halo and frame are beaded, while the cream printed background stays on the canvas.
