Icon Bead Embroidery Pattern on Art Canvas "Our Lady Kazan"

«Our Lady Kazan» is a half-length image of the Mother of God with the Christ Child, warm in colour and quiet in mood.

What the picture shows

At the centre the Mother of God wears a deep wine-red maphorion lined with green, her head inclined towards her Son. At her shoulder on the right stands the Christ Child in a blue tunic and light-blue mantle, his right hand raised in blessing. The haloes are worked in pale pearly circles, and the maphorion carries a fine floral pattern. The figures stand against a gold ground beneath an arch of ochre and russet tones. A wide border runs around the panel: a blue-and-silver plaited ornament with red squares and yellow rosettes in the corners, framed on the outside by a dark red band. Coverage is partial — beads go on the figures, haloes, arch and border ornament, while the gold ground and the outer red edging stay printed on the canvas.
