«Icon of the Mother of God „Midwife“» shows the Mother of God with open palms and the Christ Child depicted in a mandorla at her womb.

What the picture shows

She stands frontally, hands lifted palms outward at chest height. Her robe is a warm rose-red with broad folds, trimmed at collar and cuffs with turquoise and white circles. Her head is uncovered and long light-brown hair falls over her shoulders. The halo is formed of golden-ochre rays within a dark ring. Lower down, at her womb, an oval mandorla holds the swaddled Christ Child with his own halo. The ground is light ochre with a printed foliate scroll, and vertical bands of fine multicoloured ornament run down both sides. A light inscribed plaque sits at the bottom. Coverage is partial — the figure, halo, mandorla with the Child and the side ornament bands are beaded, while the ochre ground stays printed.
