What the picture shows

The angel stands facing forward, a green wreath in his fair hair and pale blue wings with long feathers spread behind him. He wears a crimson-pink robe in broad folds. His right hand holds a tall dark cross on a shaft, his left a green flowering branch. Behind him an arch is worked in gold and ochre rays radiating from the halo. The frame here is wider than on the other icons of the series: a continuous band of fine ornament with floral medallions at the corners and along the sides, and a cartouche with the name below. The beading is dense: beads cover the figure, the wings, the arch with its rays and the whole broad frame; only the face and hands are left printed.
