What the picture shows

Christ sits frontally on a high carved throne with shaped colonnettes. His right hand is raised in blessing, his left holds an open book with text. The vestment is a light creamy yellow with soft folds, and a blue himation is draped over it. A cruciform halo with letters surrounds his head, and long golden rays spread from it across the whole ground. The footing of the throne is worked in coloured inserts — red, blue and green. A wide border on a gold field runs around the edge: rows of lozenges and square rosettes in green, blue and red. The beadwork is partial: beads cover the vestments, the throne, the halo, the rays and the border, while the face, hands, hair and the text of the book remain printed on the canvas.
