“Icon of the Mother of God ‘The Quick to Hearken’” — the Mother of God with the Child on her arm, crowned, in a warm gold and brown range.

What the picture shows

The Mother of God is shown at half length, turned slightly towards the viewer, an openwork crown with pearls and jewels on her head. Her maphorion is deep brown with gold embroidery and a green lining beside the face. The Child sits on her right arm in a blue-turquoise garment with a gold edge, his feet bare and his right hand raised in blessing. Both halos are gold, and the larger halo of the Mother of God almost reaches the edges of the field. The frame is wide and festive: a continuous ornament of floral medallions in blue, red and green with crosses at the corners, and a cartouche with an inscription below. The beading is dense: beads cover the figures, the garments, the halos, the background and the whole frame; only the faces and hands are left printed.
