Description

«St. Vasilisa» shows the martyr with a cross in her hand; the blue headcloth and green cloak give a cool, collected key.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, turned slightly to the left. A blue cloth covers her head and shoulders, and over it a green cloak in broad folds fills almost the whole lower part of the image. Her right hand holds a gold cross before her, the left gathers the fabric. The halo is worked in golden beads with a warm gradation, and above it a beaded arch of ornament and the name cartouche. Face and hands remain printed, and the embossed ground is not beaded over — the beading is not solid.
