Icon Bead Embroidery Kit on Art Canvas "St. Valery"
Description
“St. Valery” is a martyr in a gold crown, with a cross in her hand and a blue gown under her mantle.
What the picture shows
The figure is shown to the waist, the face young, the gaze lowered. A gold crown with points and dark stones sits on her head, a white veil falling from beneath it to her shoulders. The mantle is crimson and heavy, thrown over the left shoulder; under it a blue gown falls in even folds. Her right hand holds a gold cross, her left the edge of the mantle. The halo is gold, the ground a warm ochre-cream with an embossed scroll. The work is harder than its neighbours: seventeen colours go into the gradations of the mantle, the crown and the blue cloth. The beads fill the crown, the mantle, the gown, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The piece is vertical, 230×300 mm; icons like this are usually stitched for a name day or a christening, and that takes several weeks of quiet evenings. The pattern is already printed on the canvas in full colour, so there are no squares to count. The frame in the photograph is bought separately — it does not come with the kit.
