“St. Valentine” is a bishop in a green phelonion, holding a gospel book.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, the face aged, the beard grey and wavy, the gaze lowered. The phelonion is green, a deep grassy shade; a pale omophorion with blue crosses and gold edging is laid over his shoulders. Both hands hold a gospel book in a red binding with inserts of several colours. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll and beaded fans above. The green of the phelonion is the largest colour mass, and the blue of the omophorion returns in the binding of the book. The beads fill the phelonion, the omophorion, the crosses, the binding and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
