«St. Trophimus» shows the apostle with his hand raised in blessing; the red himation and blue tunic make a plain, clear pairing.

What the picture shows

The apostle is shown to the waist, in three-quarter view. His hair is grey-chestnut, his beard short. A red himation is thrown over his shoulder, with a blue tunic beneath and a shoulder-piece embroidered in fine gold and white beads. His right hand is raised, palm open, to his chest; the left holds a fold. The halo is wide and golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and the name cartouche above. Face and hands remain printed on the canvas, and the cream embossed ground is not beaded over — the beading is not solid.
