«St. Stephen» shows the hierarch in green vestments with the Gospel and a prayer rope; a white omophorion with red crosses holds the top of the composition.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, frontally. His hair and long beard are white. A white omophorion with large red crosses falls over his shoulders, and beneath it a green phelonion with soft folds and gold trim. His right hand holds a Gospel in a red binding, his left a tasselled prayer rope hanging down. The halo is golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and name plaque above. Face, beard and hands stay printed on the canvas, and the cream embossed ground is not beaded over — the beading is not solid.
