Description

«St. Solomiya» shows the myrrh-bearer with a vessel at her breast; two shades of blue and a white veil make up almost the whole palette.

What the picture shows

The saint stands frontally, her head bowed. A white-lilac veil with a fine pattern covers her head and shoulders. Below it a dark blue maphorion falls in broad vertical folds, with a lighter blue gown beneath. In both hands she steadies a small rounded vessel of myrrh at her breast. The halo is golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and name plaque above. Face and hands remain printed on the canvas, and the cream embossed ground is not beaded over — the beading is not solid.
