“St. Philip” is a young apostle with an open scroll and a raised hand.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, the face young and beardless, the hair tightly curled. The clothing is light: a pink-lilac tunic and a green mantle thrown over the right shoulder in large folds. His left hand holds an open scroll with lines of Church Slavonic text; his right is raised palm outward. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll and beaded fans in the upper corners. The palette is softer than in the neighbouring icons — no dense red, resting instead on green and pink. The beads fill the tunic, the mantle and the halo, while the face, the hands, the lines of the scroll and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
