“St. Oleg” is a monk in a klobuk holding a small icon before him.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist in monastic dress: a black klobuk with a veil over the shoulders, a dark mantle with a reddish sheen, and a plain under-cassock beneath. The face is lean, the beard short and grey, the gaze lowered. Both hands hold a small dark icon in a mount before his chest. The halo is gold with a thin rim; the ground is cream with an embossed scroll and a plaque above bearing his name in Church Slavonic. The palette is restrained here: brown, black, ochre and gold. The beads fill the mantle, the klobuk, the icon and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The vertical 230×300 mm format keeps the figure large and legible even from a distance. The canvas is dense, holds tension in a hoop and does not stretch under the weight of the beads, so the edges of the finished piece stay straight. The carved moulding in the photograph is not included: it is chosen separately after the embroidery is done.
