“St. Michael” is an archangel with a staff, in wings and military dress.

What the picture shows

This is the only winged figure in the group: pale blue and white wings open wide behind his shoulders, the beads laid across the feathers. His wavy hair is bound with a red ribbon and the halo is gold. He wears brown-and-gold armour with a cross on the breast, and over it a red cloak clasped at the shoulder. In his right hand a long pale staff runs diagonally across the icon. The ground is cream with an embossed scroll, with a name plaque above. The beads fill the wings, the armour, the cloak and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The vertical 230×300 mm format keeps the figure large and legible even from a distance. The canvas is dense, holds tension in a hoop and does not stretch under the weight of the beads, so the edges of the finished piece stay straight. The carved moulding in the photograph is not included: it is chosen separately after the embroidery is done.
