What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, slightly turned. A violet-lilac maphorion with a gold edging covers her head and shoulders, light hair showing beneath. A red-and-gold necklace with a pendant sits at her throat. Her right hand is pressed to her chest; in her left, low near the edge of the icon, is a lidded gold vessel. The halo is broad and worked in golden beads; the ground is cream with an embossed scroll and a name plaque above. The beads fill the maphorion, the necklace, the vessel and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
