Description

«St. Martha» shows the martyr in a blue maphorion with a dark cross; blue and red divide the field almost equally.

What the picture shows

The saint stands half-turned, her head slightly bowed. A blue maphorion covers her head and shoulders and falls in broad folds; a dark red gown with gold trim at the neckline comes through down the centre. Her right hand holds a dark cross, the left steadies the edge of the maphorion. The halo is golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and name plaque above. Face and hands remain printed on the canvas, as does the cream embossed ground — the beading is not solid.
