Description

«St. Liya» shows the foremother with her hands folded on her breast; the striped white-and-blue veil is the most striking detail.

What the picture shows

The saint stands frontally, her head slightly bowed. The veil is white and pale blue in fine stripes, falling to her shoulders in two ends. Over it a green mantle in soft folds, and beneath it a deep red gown with gold trim. Her hands are folded on her breast, right over left. The halo is golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and name plaque above. Green and red take up almost equal areas here. Face and hands stay printed on the canvas, as does the cream embossed ground — the beading is not solid.
