What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, her gaze lowered. A pale blue veil covers her head and shoulders, with small pink flowers scattered along its edge — an unusual detail in this series. Beneath it is a deep dark red gown in broad soft folds. In her right hand she holds a small gold cross; her left is open, palm to the side. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll. The pairing of blue, cherry and gold makes this icon lighter than its neighbours. The beads fill the veil, the gown, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
