Description

«St. Joseph» shows a grey-bearded monastic with a long beard; the green mantle and blue cassock carry the colour of the whole image.

What the picture shows

The elder is shown to the waist, hands crossed on his breast. His hair and long beard are white, his gaze concentrated. Over a blue cassock lies a wide green mantle in soft folds, filling most of the field from shoulders down. The halo is worked in golden beads shading to a lighter rim, with a beaded ornamental arch and name plaque above. Face, beard and hands remain printed on the canvas; the cream embossed ground is not beaded over — the beading is not solid.
