“St. John” is a bishop in a white omophorion, his hand raised in blessing.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist in full episcopal dress. A wide white omophorion with dark crosses is laid over his shoulders, and beneath it a blue-grey sakkos with a fine diamond pattern and gold cuffs. The face is ascetic: a high forehead, a short grey beard. His right hand is raised in blessing, his left holds the edge of his vestment. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll, and a plaque above carries his name in Church Slavonic. The beads fill the omophorion, the sakkos, the crosses and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The vertical 230×300 mm sheet leaves a margin around the figure, so the work never looks crowded. It is easiest to start with the large colour fields of the clothing and leave the small accents — the crown, the cross, the border — until the hand is used to the size of the beads. The moulding in the photograph is shown for reference only — it is not in the kit.
