Description

“St. Gleb” is a young prince in lilac robes, with a large gold cross.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, the face young and beardless, fair hair falling from under his cap. The cap is golden-brown with a violet band and a stone at the front. The robes are lilac-violet, with a wide gold band across the shoulders and hem and a jewelled collar at the throat. In his left hand, lowered, he holds a large gold eight-pointed cross; his right is pressed to his chest. The halo is broad, worked in warm golden beads; the ground is cream with an embossed scroll. Lilac with gold gives the lightest palette in the group. The beads fill the robes, the cap, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
