“St. George” is a young warrior in golden armour, holding a cross.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, the face young and beardless, the hair tightly curled. The armour is worked in golden-brown scales with rows of small rivets; blue sleeves emerge from beneath it, and a red cloak clasped at the throat covers his shoulders. Both hands hold a gold cross before his chest. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll and beaded fans in the upper corners. There are only thirteen colours, so the scales of the armour are graded in broad steps. The beads fill the armour, the cloak, the sleeves, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The vertical 230×300 mm sheet leaves a margin around the figure, so the work never looks crowded. It is easiest to start with the large colour fields of the clothing and leave the small accents — the crown, the cross, the border — until the hand is used to the size of the beads. The moulding in the photograph is shown for reference only — it is not in the kit.
