“St. Eugene” is a young martyr with an eight-pointed cross at his shoulder.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist: short chestnut hair, a small beard, a level gaze. A red mantle with a broad fold covers his shoulders, with a blue tunic showing below on the left. In his left hand he holds a gold eight-pointed cross raised to his right shoulder; his right hand is pressed to his chest. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll. The kit has thirteen colours — one of the shorter palettes in the series — so the gradations in the cloth are broad and the stitching goes faster. The beads fill the mantle, the tunic, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The frame in the photograph is not part of the kit: it and the glass are chosen separately once the embroidery is finished.
