“St. Eugene” is a martyr in a pale veil, a slim cross in her raised hand.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, her head slightly bowed. A white-and-blue veil with a pearl border covers her head and shoulders. Beneath it is a deep red gown falling in broad soft folds to the lower edge of the icon. Her right hand is raised with a slim gold cross at chest height, her left open, palm to the side. The halo is gold with a fine rim; the ground is cream with an embossed foliate scroll and beaded fans in the upper corners. The beads fill the veil, the gown, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The vertical 230×300 mm format keeps the figure large and legible even from a distance. The canvas is dense, holds tension in a hoop and does not stretch under the weight of the beads, so the edges of the finished piece stay straight. The carved moulding in the photograph is not included: it is chosen separately after the embroidery is done.
