“St. Elizabeth” is a nun in a white wimple and a blue mantle, holding a cross.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, the face young and concentrated. A white wimple fits closely to her head and falls over her chest and shoulders; over it lies a deep blue mantle in large even folds. In her right hand she holds a small gold cross, her left raised palm outward. The halo is gold with a fine rim; the ground is cream with an embossed foliate scroll and beaded fans above. The whole palette rests on blue, white and gold — the most restrained icon in the group. The beads fill the mantle, the wimple, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The vertical 230×300 mm sheet leaves a margin around the figure, so the work never looks crowded. It is easiest to start with the large colour fields of the clothing and leave the small accents — the crown, the cross, the border — until the hand is used to the size of the beads. The moulding in the photograph is shown for reference only — it is not in the kit.
