Description

“St. Daria” is a martyr in a pearl headdress with a small cross in her hand.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, her gaze lowered to one side. A tall headdress of white pearl beads covers her head, with long strands set with small red stones falling to her shoulders. The dress is deep cherry, almost monochrome, with a thin gold band at the neckline. Her right hand is raised with a small gold cross, her left pressed to her chest. The halo is gold, the ground a warm cream-ochre with an embossed scroll. The whole palette rests on cherry, pearl and gold. The beads fill the headdress, the dress, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
