“St. Cyril” is a teaching monk holding an open book.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist in monastic dress: a black klobuk with a veil, a brown mantle in large folds, plain clothing beneath. The beard is long and grey, the face lean, the gaze level. Both hands hold an open book — a small figure painted on the left page, columns of letters on the right. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll and beaded fans in the upper corners. The palette is almost monochrome: brown, black and gold, with a few blue patches on the pages. The beads fill the mantle, the klobuk, the book and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.

The frame in the photograph is not part of the kit: it and the glass are chosen separately once the embroidery is finished.
