“St. Constantine” is an emperor in a jewelled crown, holding a cross on a long shaft.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist, the beard dark and curling, the gaze slightly aside. The crown is set with green and red stones on a gold band. A crimson cloak with a white wave border covers his shoulders, over dark blue, almost violet, clothing. In his right hand, raised above the shoulder, is a gold cross on a slender shaft. The halo is gold with a clear rim; the ground is cream with an embossed scroll and beaded fans above. The beads fill the crown, the cloak, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
