Description

“St. Christina” is a martyr in a gold diadem, holding a pale blue cross.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, her head slightly bowed. A gold diadem set with small stones covers her hair. A deep blue mantle wraps her shoulders, and beneath it a red gown falls in broad folds. In her left hand she holds a pale blue eight-pointed cross; in her right, held low, a light cloth. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll. A blue cross against red and blue clothing is an unusual choice: the crosses in this series are normally gold. The beads fill the mantle, the gown, the diadem, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
