“St. Catherine” is a great martyr in a crown, holding a tall cross-staff.

What the picture shows

The figure is shown to the waist in royal dress. A gold crown set with gems rests on her head, and from under it a long blue veil with a pearl border falls to her shoulders. The collar is wide and gold, laid with stones; the gown is deep red with large soft folds. In her right hand she holds a tall cross-staff that rises almost to the name plaque. The halo is gold, the ground pale cream with an embossed scroll. The twenty bead colours go mostly into the gems of the crown and collar, where the shading is densest. The beads fill the crown, the collar, the gown, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
