“St. Barbara” is a great martyr in a crown, holding an open scroll.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist. A gold crown with red stones sits on her head, with long white-and-blue strands of pearl beads falling from it to her shoulders. Her dress is deep red with a burgundy lining and a gold clasp at the throat. Both hands hold an open pale scroll carrying a prayer text in small Church Slavonic lettering. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll and beaded fans above. The pearl strands and the crown carry all the light accents; the rest of the icon is darker. The beads fill the crown, the strands, the dress and the halo, while the face, the hands, the lines of the scroll and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
