«St. Ariadne» shows the martyr in a green mantle over a red gown; a turquoise-and-white veil adds a cool note.

What the picture shows

The saint stands frontally, her head slightly turned. The veil is white and turquoise with a fine pattern, close over the head. A green mantle falls from her shoulders in broad folds, a red gown with beads at the neckline showing beneath. Her right hand holds a gold cross, her left a small pale scroll. The halo is golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and the name cartouche above. Face and hands remain printed on the canvas, as does the cream embossed ground — the beading is not solid.
