Description

“St. Antonina” is a martyr in a pearl headdress with a gold eight-pointed cross.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist. A tall white-pearl headdress with a pointed top covers her head and falls to her shoulders in even strands. The gown is a deep green in broad vertical folds, with red cloth showing at the throat and below. Both hands hold a gold eight-pointed cross before her chest. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll and beaded fans above. Green with pearl and red gives a calm palette that is still far from washed out. The beads fill the headdress, the gown, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
