Description

“St. Alla” is a martyr in a pearl veil, a cross in her raised hand.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, the face young, the look calm. A white-pearl veil in fine folds covers her head and shoulders. Over it lies a red mantle, and beneath it a green gown with a violet band at the hem showing below. Her right hand is raised with a small gold cross at chest height, her left open palm outward. The halo is gold, the ground cream with an embossed scroll. Green with violet under the red mantle carries more colour than it first appears — hence the seventeen bead shades. The beads fill the veil, the mantle, the gown, the cross and the halo, while the face, the hands and the ground stay printed on the canvas.
