Description

«St. Alevtina» shows the martyr with a cross; a white-and-gold veil against a dark red mantle keeps the image contrasting and collected.

What the picture shows

The saint is shown to the waist, her head slightly turned. The veil is white and gold with a fine radiant pattern, close over the head and falling to the shoulders. Over it a dark red mantle drops in broad folds, a green gown showing below. Her right hand holds a gold cross, the left steadies the edge of the fabric. The halo is golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and name plaque above. Face and hands remain printed on the canvas, as does the cream embossed ground — the beading is not solid.
