Description

«St. Agnes» shows the martyr with loose hair and a coloured wreath — the only female image in the batch with no veil.

What the picture shows

The saint stands almost frontally, head slightly inclined. Long chestnut hair falls freely to her shoulders, with a narrow wreath of red and green beads on her head. A red mantle is thrown over her shoulders, a cream-and-gold patterned gown beneath, with beads at the neckline. Her right hand holds a cross. The halo is golden, with a beaded ornamental arch and name plaque above. Face, hair and hands remain printed on the canvas, as does the cream embossed ground — the beading is not solid.
