“When Poppies Bloom” shows red, pink and white poppies on warm ecru canvas.

What the picture shows

The flowers are gathered into a broad bunch: open red poppies with dark centres, soft pink and white ones with yellow stamens, and several closed buds on curving stems. The petals are worked with gentle transitions, from deep red to almost transparent pink. Thin stems with hairs and tendrils are drawn in pale lines over the canvas. The background is not stitched: the ecru colour works as warm daylight. Thirty-seven floss colours, 96 m. The dark poppy centres are stitched last: they set the depth and immediately bring all the petals to life.
